JOB PURPOSE
Rhodium Personnel Management, on behalf of our client, a leading beverage manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Area Sales Manager to oversee operations within an assigned sales territory.
The Area Sales Manager will be fully responsible for driving sales volume, increasing market share, and strengthening brand positioning in the designated region. This role involves direct leadership of a team of Market Development Representatives (MDRs) to build strong customer relationships, deliver consistent market representation, and achieve sales and merchandising objectives.
The successful candidate will:
- Drive team performance to ensure full market coverage, effective range selling, and volume growth.
- Develop team capabilities and hold members accountable for performance, conduct, and execution.
- Be responsible for sales volume targets, merchandising standards, customer service delivery, and local outlet management within the territory.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND DELIVERABLES
BI-Weekly Sales Review Meetings
- Attend scheduled review meetings with the line Sales Manager.
- Review team performance including geo-compliance, range selling, strike rates, in-store metrics, and volume performance (RGB and PET).
- Analyze customer-level performance, identify shortfalls, and agree on corrective actions.
- Address unbilled customers with commitments for resolution in the next PJP cycle.
Daily Morning MDR Sales Meetings
- Conduct daily briefings with the MDR team to evaluate the previous day’s performance.
- Highlight key issues, performance gaps, and areas needing improvement.
- Set clear tasks and corrective actions for the day.
- Provide on-the-spot coaching and mentorship to build team capability.
- Review range selling performance and sales achievements against targets.
- Recognize and celebrate outstanding performance and positive market outcomes.
Morning Merchandising Review
- Hold daily meetings with the merchandising supervisor to review cooler utilization, product availability, and merchandising compliance.
- Review pricing compliance and address any cases of price abuse directly with DCs and stockists.
- Identify and address merchandising gaps, while recognizing and reinforcing good performance.
Sales & In Market Execution
- Oversee sales, merchandising, customer service, and territory administration.
- Set clear, territory-aligned objectives with each team member.
- Manage distributor performance and ensure proper pricing and promotion implementation.
- Conduct at least one full-day route ride per MDR per week to evaluate performance and provide coaching.
- Maintain weekly records of market visits, objectives, and progress.
- Analyze sales reports and initiate corrective plans to achieve targets.
- Ensure continuous field presence to monitor team performance, market trends, and competitor activities.
- Drive customer base expansion, cooler placements, and identify horizontal/vertical growth opportunities.
- Manage customer complaints professionally and ensure timely resolution.
- Enforce proper use of customer cards and conduct regular spot checks on cooler assets and records.
- Report changes in competitor activity or market dynamics promptly to Sales/Marketing Management.
- Promote stock rotation practices (e.g., FIFO) among customers.
Asset Management and MIS
- Ensure proper documentation and agreements for all company assets in the territory.
- Oversee asset agreements and reconciliation as per company policy.
- Identify new locations for cooler, ice box, or push cart placements.
- Monitor asset breakdowns and coordinate repairs with relevant departments.
Reporting Requirements
Prepare and submit:

- 3x cooler spot checks against merchandising KPIs.
- 3x brand positioning spot checks against POS guidelines.
- 3x route ride reports on MDR performance.
- Market float, stock availability, and opportunity analysis.
Bi-Weekly Reports covering:

- Unbilled customers and corrective actions.
- Range selling performance as a % of total territory sales.
- MDR KPI compliance and corrective measures.
Competitor Reports on pricing, sales initiatives, market impact, glass float ratio, and customer sentiment.
- Report any irregularities involving CR deliveries or MDR activities to the Sales Manager.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS)
- Achievement of area volume sales targets by pack and brand.
- Range selling targets as a percentage of total sales.
- Brand availability across packs and flavours.
- Growth in numeric and weighted distribution.
- Optimal cooler placement for volume growth.
- Distributor order generation and adherence.
- Enhanced brand visibility through dealer signboards and POS.
- Timely submission of all required reports.
- Strict price compliance across the territory.
- Ensure Price compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor Degree/Advanced Diploma in Business Administration or a related field and at least 6 years working experience in similar responsibilities.
