POSITION: Mechanical Equipment Operators (3)

LOCATION: Mtwara

POSITION SUMMARY

ALPHA NAMATA COMPANY LIMITED is looking for three Mechanical Equipment Operators at our busy depot in Mtwara. The Mechanical equipment operator must be able to operate a Reach Stacker, Forklift, Empty Handler and other kinds of machines. 

Typical duties and responsibilities

  • Operate Reach Stacker, Forklift, Empty Handler and other equipment to receive and load sea containers in a safe and efficient, adhering to company and port safety standards and processes.
  • Load and unload containers onto chassis, ensuring proper weight distribution and securing.
  • Monitor gauges, inspect products, and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning and lubricating equipment parts, and report any maintenance issues to the Mechanical Engineer-Container Terminal and site supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate records of container movements, inventory, and equipment maintenance.
  • Demonstrate a high level of safety and process compliance, adhering to company and port safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members and stakeholders, ensuring efficient container and products handling operations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure optimal use of resources and minimal delays.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, and productivity in the terminal.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum education level of Diploma in Port Equipment and facilities maintenance management or relevant field from an accredited college or university.
  • Applicant must have a Certificate in Mechanical operator course (Reach Stacker, Forklift, Empty Handler, Winch, Crane).
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in mechanical equipment operation
  • A valid driving license.

Technical Competencies

  • Proficient with standard terminal equipment and technical expertise
  • Excellent container stacking, organization, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Thoroughly familiar with the strict implementation of safety standards
  • A comprehensive understanding of container terminal and port operations.
  • Excellent visual acuity and attention to detail
  • Ability to speak, read, and write
  • Physical strength and stamina for heavy lifts
  • Excellent knowledge of equipment operations and maintenance procedures
  • Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner
  • Ability to handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress

POSITION: Mechanical Engineer-Container Terminal (1)

LOCATION: Mtwara

POSITION SUMMARY

ALPHA NAMATA COMPANY LIMITED is looking for one Mechanical Engineer-Container Terminal to support our busy depot in Mtwara. The Mechanical Engineer-Container Terminal must be able to service and maintain the Reach Stackers, Forklifts, Empty Handlers and other kinds of equipment and machines. The Mechanical Engineer-Container Terminal will be responsible for ensuring that the depot runs smoothly and efficiently. This includes overseeing the maintenance and repair of all mechanical equipment, as well as coordinating the activities of the workers who operate it.

Typical duties and responsibilities

  • Follow-up of a fleet of equipment in the container terminal and the port.
  • Keep up the servicing of all terminal equipment (Forklifts, Reach stacker, Empty handler, Terminal Trucks etc.), with different working systems.
  • Identify deficiencies in mechanical processes and develop improvements.
  • Ensure that the allocated fleet of equipment is in good and safe working condition.
  • Create a systematic performance management for equipment for preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Support in house staffs and subcontractor as regards to planning of maintenance activities and provide on-going training and expertise as and when necessary.
  • Prepare budgets for the equipment categories and ensure that running costs on a monthly basis do not exceed agreed thresholds.
  • Review preventive maintenance schedules PM routinely, when and where required in order to ensure that maintenance program is dynamic and is updated according to the changing operational scenarios within which the equipment is operating.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum education level of Diploma in mechanical engineering. A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in mechanical practices specifically relating to light and heavy mobile equipment (heavy truck, Crane, Forklift, Reach stacker, Empty Handler etc.)
  • A valid driving license

Technical Competencies

  • Proficient with standard terminal equipment and technical expertise
  • Ability to use computer-aided design (CAD) software, analyze data, and troubleshoot problems
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Thoroughly familiar with the strict implementation of safety standards
  • A comprehensive understanding of container terminal and port operations.
  • Excellent knowledge of equipment operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to design and program control systems for a variety of applications
  • Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner
  • Ability to handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress
  • Flexibility in resolving issues and addressing changing priorities.
