Supervision

- Assistant Accountant- Projects
Job Summary:
Accountant( Financial Reporting) is responsible for managing financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and providing accurate financial information to support decision making within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting
- Consolidate financial data from across the organisation businesses and prepare a trial balance on financial transactions.
- Prepare monthly financial management account report on organisation financial position for management review.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, specific to organisation operations.
- Implement and maintain accounting systems and processes that comply with industry standards and regulations.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements specific to the mining industry, including tax regulations, royalty payments, and financial disclosure standards.
- Stay updated with changes in accounting and reporting standards relevant to the sector and advise the immediate supervisor in scenario of any changes.
Financial Analysis
- Analyse financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue generation.
- Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making, such as investment in new projects or expansion initiatives.
Cost Analysis
- Conduct regular cost variance analysis and provide recommendations for cost control. • Analyse mining costs, including exploration, extraction, and processing costs, to optimize operational efficiency.
- Work closely with operational teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and monitor cost control measures.
Audit and Internal Controls
- Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. • Coordinate and liaise with external auditors during annual audits for a smooth execution of the audit plan.
- Address audit findings and implement recommendations for process improvements.
Financial Planning and Budgeting
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and long-term financial plans.
- Monitor budgetary performance and provide variance analysis reports to management. • Collaborate with department heads to align financial plans with operational goals.
Asset Management
- Review capital expenditure purchase and ensure accurate upload of all fixed assets in the fixed asset register.
- Ensure all new assets have been properly labelled in the fixed asset register and have been assigned tag number for a specific asset.
- Carry out periodic reconciliation and coordinate physical verification of fixed assets. • Ensure proper location and existence of fixed assets by conducting periodic asset verification. • Generate monthly report on depreciation and amortization of fixed asset and ensure have been posted in the respective general ledgers.
- Assess and accounting for impairment and conducting periodic assessment review and advise on disposal of fixed asset based on the assessment.
Account Reconciliation
- Generate month end general ledger reconciliation as well as Bank reconciliation. • Investigate and resolve discrepancies relating to financial transaction in a timely manner.
Data Management
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records, ensuring data integrity and accessibility. • Utilize financial software and tools to streamline reporting processes and improve efficiency. • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Immediate Supervisor from time to time.
Key Qualifications:
Academic and Experience Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Professional certification in the field of accounting such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is mandatory.
- A minimum of 3 years previous experience in financial reporting ,preferably within the mining industry or related sector
Technical Competencies
- Knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Proficiency in financial analysis techniques to interpret data, identify trends, and provide insights into financial performance.
- Familiarity with accounting software systems used for financial reporting.
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements • Demonstrated ability to design and implement controls to safeguard financial data and ensure accuracy.
- Familiarity with auditing processes and compliance requirements
- Ability to create financial models to forecast future financial performance.
