Communication and Transport Workers Union of Tanzania COTWU (T)
The Communication and Transport Workers Union of Tanzania COTWU (T) is a non –profit, democratic Organization, made up of voluntary workers. The Organization came into being in 1996 and was registered in 2000 under the Tanzania Trade Union Ordinance No. 10 of 1998 as a Trade Union to represent workers employed in the Communication and Transport industry. COTWU (T) is affiliated to the National Centre, TUCTA, the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and the Union Network International (UNI).
All workers employed in the following sectors of the Communication and Transport Industry is eligible for membership in COTWU (T);
Telephone Communication.
Posts Communication.
Television and Radio Communication.
Press and Publications Communication.
Clearing and Forwarding services.
Road tours and passenger transport services.
Road Cargo transport services.
Airport passengers and cargo services.
Passengers and Cargo Air transport services.
Passengers and Cargo Marine Transport services.
Passengers and Cargo Lake transport services.
Pipeline Oil transport Companies
Cargo handling agents.

Based on the premise that each individual worker is entitled to the basic human rights, COTWU (T) is guided in its work by Rights Programming approaches. These are supported by the following strategies:
Creating consciousness among workers concerning their rights.
Improve life and working conditions of workers through collective bargaining.
Educating workers and members on all matters pertaining to their employment, right and benefits in their employment.
Promoting harmony at workplaces.
To promote gender equality
Influencing the government to adopt friendly social/economic policies to the workers.
Uniting all workers under COTWU (T) constitution.
