Position: Project Coordinator 

Contract duration: Two years 

Duty station: Arusha, with frequent travel to programme intervention  areas in Arusha District Council and Karatu District 

Reporting to[ Programmes Manager

About Islands of Peace (Iles de Paix) 

Iles de Paix (IDP) is a Belgian non – governmental and non – profit organisation that promotes sustainable food systems and the right to food. IDP works with small – scale family farmers and other food – system actors to advance agroecology, strengthen production, storage, processing and marketing, and foster an enabling environment  through awareness raising and advocacy. Particular attention is given to the  meaningful participation of women and youth. 

IDP has been registered as an international NGO in Tanzania since 2015 and  implements programmes in the Arusha Region. Its current portfolio includes Kilimo  Endelevu Arusha, Kilimo Endelevu Arusha Plus, AgroKilimo, EcoFood II and SAFI.  Implementation is un dertaken in close collaboration with local and national  government authorities, farmer organisations, civil – society organisations, research institutions and development partners. 

IDP is recruiting a Project Coordinator to coordinate the implementation of one or  two programmes within this portfolio, as assigned by the organisation. 

Main Responsibilities

  • The main Responsibilities of the P roject C oordinator will be as follows;
  • Develop and coordinate annual and periodic work plans with implementing  partners and relevant stakeholders, in line with approved programme objectives,  budgets and timelines.
  • Coordinate programme activities and maintain effective working relationships  with implementing partners, local government authorities, farmer organisations  and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor implementation progress, results, indicators and risks through field visits,  partner reviews and the organisation’s monitoring system, and recommend timely  corrective actions where necessary.
  • Coordinate the collection, verification and documentation of programme data,  evidence, lessons learned and good practices to support learning,  communication and programme improvement.
  • Develop reporting schedules with partners and consolidate high – quality narrative and results reports in accordance with IDP and donor requirements.
  • Monitor programme expenditure and work closely with the Programmes Manager  and Finance and Administration team to ensure sound budget management,  procurement planning and the efficient and accountable use of resources.
  • Support compliance with grant agreements, donor requirements, applicable laws,  and IDP policies and procedures, including safeguarding, gender equality,  integrity and prevention of fraud and corruption. 

Required Qualification 

Education and Core Competencies 

  • Bachelor of Science in Agr iculture , Agronomy , Sustainable Ag riculture, Sustainable Food Systems, Biodiversity, Natural Resources Management , Project Manage ment, Nutrition or all related fields (Agro e cology and Food systems will be  our center of focus) ;
  • Demonstrated technical ability, sound judgment and ability to work effectively with  others at all levels;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in Swahili and English; Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality and sustainable development; Computer skill s particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point;
  • At least three years of relevant experience in coordinating agroecology,  sustainable agriculture, natural resources management or sustainable food systems projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning, monitoring, evaluation, reporting  and budget follow – up.
  • Experience working with farmers and farmer organisations, market actors, civil society organisations and local government authorities.
  • Experience facilitating participatory processes and building the capacities of  farmers, farmer organisations or community – based organisations.
  • Experience working in rural settings and willingness to travel frequently to  programme intervention areas.
  • Knowledge of agroecology, gender – responsive programming, food systems and climate resilience is highly desirable.
