Role Overview

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited is seeking a qualified Fixed Asset Accountant to manage the recognition, tracking, valuation, and financial reporting of all capital assets across its large-scale gold mine in Mwanza. The role oversees fixed assets across mining, processing, infrastructure, and support services, ensuring full alignment with company policies, IFRS standards, and Tanzanian regulatory requirements.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Fixed Asset Accounting & Reporting: Maintain the site-wide fixed asset register, process asset acquisitions, transfers, disposals, and retirements, and calculate monthly depreciation, amortization, and impairment entries.

  • Capex & WIP Management: Monitor capital expenditure requests (AFEs), track Work-in-Progress (WIP) accounts, ensure timely capitalization when assets become operational, and monitor project spending against approved budgets.

  • Physical Verification & Asset Control: Coordinate site-wide physical asset audits across pits, processing plants, workshops, and camps. Implement asset tagging, location coding, and maintain custody records.

  • IFRS & Lease Accounting: Ensure compliance with IAS 16 (Property, Plant & Equipment), IAS 36 (Impairment), and IFRS 16 (Lease Accounting for right-of-use assets and liabilities).

  • Asset Componentisation & Life-of-Mine: Collaborate with engineering teams on componentization (e.g., heavy mobile equipment, plant machinery), track useful life, and support mine closure/rehabilitation asset accounting.

  • Audit & Internal Controls: Maintain strong internal controls surrounding capital approvals and asset disposals; prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external auditors.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.

  • Professional Qualification: CPA, ACCA, CIMA (or active progress toward completion) is preferred.

  • Work Experience: 3 to 5 years of general accounting experience, with at least 2 years focused on fixed asset and Capex accounting in a capital-intensive sector.

  • Industry Background: Previous experience in mining (gold preferred), oil & gas, construction, or heavy manufacturing is strongly preferred.

  • Technical Skills: Sound knowledge of relevant IFRS standards (IAS 16, IAS 36, IFRS 16) and hands-on experience using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto, Sage).
