Job Purpose
The TSF Supervisor is responsible for overseeing site-level implementation of the Tailings Management Standard (TMS) and global industry best practices. Working within the Engineering Department, this role ensures Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) operations, earthworks, instrumentation monitoring, dam safety inspections, and closure plans strictly comply with regulatory requirements, engineering design intent, and Barrick safety policies.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Tailings Governance & Standard Implementation:
-
Implement and maintain the Tailings Management Standard (TMS) and Operation, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) manual across site facilities.

Establish operational budgets, organizational roles, and responsibilities with the Accountable Executive.

Maintain formal alignment with the Engineer of Record (EoR) and Design Team to ensure operational activities comply with design intent.

Monitoring, Surveillance & Risk Mitigation:

Monitor and interpret data from Vibrating Wire Piezometers and geotechnical instrumentation installed on TSF embankments.

Oversee routine dam safety inspections, Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs), and Independent Review programmes.

Implement immediate corrective actions for any identified variances from performance criteria or safety limits.

Civil Earthworks & Emergency Response:

Drive operational efficiency across all TSF civil earthworks, compaction testing, and embankment raise activities.

Develop, review, and test stand-alone and site-wide emergency response plans related to tailings facilities.

Manage TSF closure planning and progressive environmental reclamation throughout the operational lifecycle.

Candidate Qualifications & Experience
-
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Work Experience: Minimum 3+ years of Civil Engineering experience within the mining and metals industry.

Specialized Experience: Direct experience in tailings dam construction, operation, or geotechnical project engineering is a distinct added advantage.

Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of soil structural characteristics, soil mechanics, compaction and consolidation testing, and piezometric monitoring.

Systems & Governance: Familiarity with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), Management of Change (MoC) processes, and OMS frameworks.
