Introduction
TAWIDO is a Non-Governmental Organization led and established by women in 2011 with the aim of promoting health, gender equality, and human rights among women and vulnerable girls in the community.
The organization was registered in 2013 and obtained its compliance certificate of registration No. 00NGO/R/0169 under the NGO Act of 2002 to operate in Tanzania Mainland.
TAWIDO works to ensure the development, care, and protection of women and vulnerable adolescent girls by raising awareness about their rights and opportunities for development.
Among other initiatives, TAWIDO runs a helpline/call center that uses Bulk SMS, Interactive Voice Response, SMS Chat Platform, and toll-free services to provide awareness, counselling, referral, and linkage of clients to services through a broad network of service providers in all regions of Tanzania.
TAWIDO has solid experience in implementing global HIV programs, offering services among key and vulnerable populations ranging from prevention to ART initiation, as well as fighting stigma and discrimination.
TAWIDO is currently implementing the J4S Project in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Dodoma, and Singida. The project is funded by IPPF and aims to address critical gaps and bottlenecks in the response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) among key and vulnerable populations.
To facilitate the smooth implementation of this project, TAWIDO wishes to recruit qualified, experienced, motivated, and dynamic individuals for the following position.
Job Title: Helpline Counselors – 6 Posts
Work Station: Dar es Salaam
Reporting To: Helpline Manager
Duration: 6 months, renewable, full-time
Salary: Negotiable
Qualifications and Other Requirements
Applicants should meet the following qualifications and requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Health Information, Social Work, or another related field.
- At least 2 to 5 years of relevant experience working in similar roles.
- Knowledge of health and development programs in Tanzania, including familiarity with national guidelines, standards, and protocols.
- Experience working with NGOs dealing with gender-based violence, mental health, psychology, and human rights.
- Ability to apply counselling skills.
- Ability to document success stories and provide realistic reports.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Helpline Counselors will be responsible for the following duties:
- Providing counselling, guidance, and psychosocial support to clients.
- Assisting in providing VPR support and creating awareness among GBV survivors on reporting GBV and other human rights violations.
- Linking, following up, and retaining clients to relevant services.
- Promoting the hotline number through different sources in order to reach more clients in need of support.
- Preparing and submitting reports, including daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
- Documenting activity reports and success stories on a monthly basis.
- Educating clients about available community resources, such as support groups, income-generating activities (IGA), and friendly social services.
- Representing TAWIDO Call Center whenever requested to do so.
