Position: Underground Shift Supervisor

Location: Geita Gold Mine, Geita

Position Purpose:

This position is required to coordinate underground mining activities daily by prioritizing resources, machinery, and personnel to achieve the targets set out in the mine plan. The Underground Shift Supervisor ensures that mining operations are conducted in a safe manner and that any safety issues are promptly reported to the Underground Manager and Project Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures mining operations are conducted safely and any safety issues are promptly reported.
Plans daily production levels for the mine.
Performs the daily management control and supervision of the working areas of the mine in accordance with relevant Acts and Regulations.
Oversees the mine and ensures that all employees, subcontractors, and visitors understand and accept responsibility for safety.
Organizes and provides guidance to crews at each site regarding rosters and day-to-day running of the site.
Conducts daily work planning meetings/toolbox meetings.
Ensures new staff have been appropriately inducted according to AUMS and client requirements.
Submits incident reports to the Site Project Manager for any incidents that occur on shift.
Oversees the training of shift personnel to ensure all tasks are conducted safely.
Liaises with contractors on-site, ensuring their work is performed safely and in accordance with AUMS standards.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum of 10 years’ underground experience in mechanized hard rock mining.
Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory position in mechanized mining.
Must hold an Underground Shift Supervisor Certification.
Management or leadership development training.
Valid Tanzanian Driver’s License and good driving skills.
Senior First Aid Certificate.
Understanding of drilling and blasting techniques.
Understanding of mining equipment and human resource capability and productivities.
Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with both employees and site managers.
Ability to identify potential hazards and minimize risks.
Understanding of mine plans and mining techniques.
Understanding of statutory and mining regulations.
Ability to assess people performance and potential.
