Location: Tanzania
Job Title: Systems Engineer
Reports to: Senior Architect, IT Solutions (UK-based)
Duration: 12 months fixed term, with possible extension subject to funding
Special Requirements: The right to live and work in Tanzania. The successful applicant will be employed and based in Tanzania, with salary set according to BBC Media Action’s Tanzania pay scales

Overall Purpose of Job:
Working within the cross-country IT Projects team, the systems engineer will take responsibility for implementing system builds and upgrades in order to ensure continuous compliance with cyber security requirements, as well as reporting and responding to cyber security incidents, both internally and externally.
Main Duties and Accountabilities:
- Plan and undertake the roll out of system builds and upgrades, for both end user and server systems across BBC Media Action country offices.
- Work with the senior architect to implement system changes and upgrades to ensure our systems work effectively to meet our security requirements.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with users and in-country management to ensure that system changes are planned to cause minimal disruption to local operations.
- Document and update system documentation and records.
- Operate monitoring systems focused on cyber security, following agreed processes to respond to incidents.
- Produce and transmit reports regarding cyber security incidents to internal and external authorities.
- Support of information security audits.
Day-to-day line management of the junior information security officer.
Travel to BBC Media Action country offices to provide in-person support to builds and installs when required. - Understand and comply with BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy, the staff code of conduct as well as financial policy especially on retirement and fraud.
- Report any safeguarding concerns immediately, either to the Country Director, or using the Whistleblowing Policy.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Experience in the design, delivery or support of technical systems and infrastructure within a media technology environment; as well as experience of systems engineering.
- Must have experience using Windows Enterprise management tools as well as strong expertise in managing Microsoft Windows client and server.
- Experience of network equipment configuration, including switches, VLANs, firewalls and managed wireless.
- Motivated and organised with the ability to manage multiple active tasks.
- A fair standard of communication and presentation skills in English, both oral and written, is essential.
- Be able to travel to country offices as necessary to share knowledge, conduct training or assist on specific projects.
