Caf Champions League: Mamelodi Sundowns suffer semi-final first-leg setback in loss to Esperance away in Tunisia

The Brazilians endured a 1-0 loss in the first leg of the Caf Champions League semi-final against Esperance on Saturday night.

The match got off to an exciting start as both teams had chances to score early on.

As the game progressed and spaces opened up, the hosts managed to score first. Yan Sasse capitalized on a rebound after goalkeeper Ronwen Williams deflected his initial chip, breaking the deadlock in the 41st minute. The Tunisian team held onto their 1-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Sundowns ramped up their efforts to score an equalizer, but they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

In the dying minutes, Esperance defended in numbers as the Brazilians launched their attacks. However, at the full-time whistle, the score stood at 1-0 in favour of the Tunisians, giving them the advantage as they head into the second leg in Tshwane on April 26th.
