The issue has not only seen Kenyans, but the political class and even diplomats weigh in on the same.

China Square.
The issue around China Square in Nairobi is a hot topic that has elicited mixed reactions across the social media spheres.
What started as a Chinese identifying a problem and offering a solution for the same at the beginning of the year, is now an issue of contention.
The man at the centre of this heated exchange is Lei Cheng, the director of Chinese Square.
Videos of the shopping centre that brought life to UniCity mall saw thousands of Kenyans flock the place for shopping.
The reason for the uncontrollable crowds was, Cheng offered cheap or affordable prices.
Some items sold for up to half the price they retail at in downtown Nairobi.
The crowds led to complaints by retailers in Nairobi down town which led to intervention by Trade CS Moses Kuria. The CS called for the closure of the shop saying the Chinese should not be allowed into retail business.
He insisted that they can only do manufacturing.
Cheng says he was only offering a solution to Kenyans after he noticed prices of commodities were high.
The issue has not only seen Kenyans, but the political class and even diplomats weigh in on the same.
Here’s what Kenyans had to say;
Lei Cheng is a LEGEND.
May he prosper MORE & cronies CRY MORE.
Lei Cheng set up a business in January, brought goods from China, paid all taxes, got all the approvals and stocked China Square, still managed to sell goods at half the price, and made at least Ksh 20 million per day. I thought we should support such in making life affordable?
