Job Description
The Program Officer Volunteer, Business and Human Rights will support Legal and Human Rights Centre in shaping and implementing Business and Human Rights activities by enhancing implementation and enforcement of laws and regulations that protect social, economic, and environmental rights.
Responsibility:
- Ensure effective programme implementation including
- Gather inputs and coordinate the preparation of work-plans, periodic narrative progress reports and expenditures status reports.
- Gather and compile all information necessary for monitoring and reporting on activities from the planning to the evaluation stages.
- Draft and provide inputs to annual and quarterly reports.
- Advocate and facilitate knowledge building and management and communication.
- Ability to Research, monitor, and document human rights abuses by collecting and analyzing information from a wide variety of sources including governments, companies, local media, NGOs, victims, witnesses, journalists, and others in the field.
- Knowledge in advocating and responding to human rights abuses in the business sector.
- Ability to write accurate, unbiased, comprehensive, and timely reports and other advocacy documents.
- Ability to conduct policy analysis and recommendations policy recommendations impacting business and human rights.
- Assist in the implementation of local, regional, and international strategies to change abusive laws, policies, and practices in the public and private sectors with regards to human rights and business.
- Respond promptly to queries from the media and public in the human rights community and take initiative to project human rights concerns in public debate.
- Work closely with partner organizations to develop opportunities for our work to enhance and complement LHRC work.
- Liaise effectively with human rights monitors and paralegals located in multiple locations throughout the country to ensure effective coordination and delivery of activities.
- Knowledge in report writing and presentation.
- Have an experience in working with NGO on human rights issues.
- Conduct awareness-raising, capacity building and advocacy activities, including
- Drafting reports or conducting quality control over reports, highlighting key issues, trends, emerging opportunities, risks, potential project partners, and entry-points for the country.
- Deliver presentations/workshops to raise awareness and build partnerships at the national level.
focus on capacity-building, multi-stakeholder engagement and advocacy to build effective and impactful business and human rights outcomes, - Work collaboratively with the FPs and stakeholders to foster the adoption and implementation of human rights standards and strengthen accountability for adverse business-related human rights impacts.
Experience :
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience (with bachelor’s degree) in programme and policy work preferably in human rights, land rights or Responsible Business fields
- Any experience working on Business and Human Rights matters is an asset.
- Experience working with business and civil society in Tanzania on human rights.
- Experience in project support and coordination as well as in the development of project documents and material for outreach and advocacy, is required.
- Experience in climate socio- economic rights and climate change knowledge.
