Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 120 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its main office and operations in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. Position: Superintendent 2 – Process Technical

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
This role is responsible for providing technical/metallurgical guidance and expertise to the plant production function under the management of the Process Manager. This includes providing technical support to all plant production activities safely and cost effectively and in an environmentally response and sustainable manner as well the developing robust budgets and plans for production and associated services. The incumbent will manage the metallurgical team responsible for providing technical support.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BSc in Engineering (Metallurgy/Chemical/Process Engineering or any other relevant engineering degree.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 10 years in gold plant operations involving crushing, milling, thickening, leaching, elution plants, TSF, batching plants, compressors, water treatment etc.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
i. Safety Health and Environment
Take a lead role in driving the HSE management program in your area of responsibility and deliver the HSE objectives which include:
- Driving the zero harm and injuries initiative by actively promoting health and safety awareness
- Proactively managing and reducing all hazards (include major hazards)
- Driving the safety leading indicators such as safety interventions, PTOs, inspections etc.
- Ensure compliance to national and international standards and regulations such as NEMC, ISO14001, ISO45001, IMIU, OSHAS, ICMI etc.
ii. Technical
- Collect data to monitor key performance metrics of each unit process and a) advise operations on immediate corrective action and b) implement continuous improvement initiatives in support of Operational Excellence
- Ensure critical metallurgical activities are managed:
- Application of proper sampling techniques
- Metal accounting reconciliation
- Reagent addition control
- Communition circuit surveys – to identify and correct efficiency bottlenecks.
- Treatment circuit surveys – to identify efficiency bottlenecks.
- Equipment calibration tests – rise tests, weightometers, cyanide and oxygen meters.
- Key measurements – crusher gaps, mill liner wear (scans)
- Monitor process control performance to optimise metallurgical performance and minimise process variation (in collaboration with the control and instrumentation function)
- Reporting – includes daily weekly and monthly plant performance reports as well as reports on testwork and technical development projects and properly maintain all records (met library)
Scan for new technology opportunities and develop business cases to present to the Processing Manager for consideration. - Geometallurgy – plan and execute the geometallurgy program for the process plant in line with the business plan.
- Lead the development of operational best practice culminating into control philosophies, operating manuals, and procedures.
- Water treatment plant operations managed to produce potable water at the right quality and quantity.
- Drive the monthly technical review meetings and facilitate the quarterly technical reviews with the regional support team.
iii. Business Planning
- Develop a sound metallurgical business plan for the process plant (based on sensible and scientific planning assumptions)
- Prepare and maintain the metallurgical cookbook.
iv. Cost Management
Take a lead role in the:
- Management of monthly/quarterly/annual costs within the approved budgets – with particular focus on reagents
- Developing and updating cost forecasts on a monthly basis
- Create cost awareness and continuous drive to reduce cost.
v. Training and People Development
- Drive the training and development of technical staff by:
- Develop (Individual Development Plans) IDPs for subordinates and facilitate its implementation.
- Develop training needs for junior staff and develop the training matrix, in collaboration with the plant training officer.
- Facilitating training of technical employees in compliance with the plant training matrix
- Conduct timely performance reviews in line with the company program.
vi. Continuous Improvement
- Drive the continuous improvement program within the technical function by:
- Identifying, prioritising and executing improvement ideas in line with the company business improvement program (as guided by the plant performance monitoring activities).
