Overall purpose of job:
The Solutions Architect will work with the Senior Solutions Architect and IT Projects team to help deliver the organisation’s technology strategy. The post holder will have the opportunity and responsibility to shape the organisation’s strategic technology projects, being engaged from idea conception through to delivery. You’ll have the experience, passion, and determination to ensure a successful technical solution is implemented every time. They will be expected to advise in the use of appropriate technology, budgeting, procurement, and provide technical governance for UK & International offices when implementing new IT solutions to ensure users get the most out of our IT services.
Main duties and accountabilities:
- Collaborate to define and communicate IT architectures & approaches for each project.
- Ensure full integration with other BBC Media Action services, such as finance and media archiving products.
- Contribute to departmental technology strategy.
- Increase the technical depth of both the UK & International IT teams and act as a technical advisor.
- Promote skills and knowledge share, investing new ideas and skills into the core technology team.
- Update, create, and develop project implementation plans and take responsibility for delivery of these plans.
- Advise on equipment and software purchasing in accordance with procurement procedures of BBC Media Action and donors/partners.
- Technical lead with systems integrators and others who provide installation services.
- Provide specialist expertise for 3rd line escalations.
- Understand and comply with BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy, the staff code of conduct, as well as financial policy, especially on retirement and fraud.
- Report any safeguarding concerns immediately, either to the Country Director or using the Whistleblowing Policy.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
Required skills, knowledge, and experience:
- Strong technical foundation in virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V, cloud computing, IP networking, and storage.
- Must be well-versed in Microsoft Office 365, Azure, Configuration Manager, and Intune, and have a solid understanding of Windows Server technologies including Active Directory, user account management, NAS/SAN drives, antivirus, encryption, and troubleshooting.
- Must have hands-on experience in programme management and migration planning for medium-scale software deployments.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, and skilled at managing your time effectively while balancing multiple priorities.
- A fair standard of communication and presentation skills in English, both oral and written, is essential. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to build effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels and with external partners.
Safeguarding and conduct:
The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
