The Server Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of computer servers and related components. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment.
Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software components.
Set up new servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all server resources, systems, and key processes.
Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups.
Implement and maintain security measures to safeguard servers against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats.
Ensure servers comply with organizational security policies and standards
Proactively monitor and optimize server performance, addressing performance issues and collaborating with other teams to implement solutions.
Conduct performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as needed.
Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures, ensuring data integrity and availability.
Test and verify backups to ensure data can be restored in the event of a disaster.
Respond to system outages and other issues promptly, diagnosing and resolving technical problems.
Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT personnel.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of server configurations, processes, and procedures.
Create and update documentation for system-related processes and workflows.
Work closely with other IT teams, including network administrators, database administrators, and support personnel, to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience as a server administrator or in a similar role.
Strong knowledge of server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux/Unix).
Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
Understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
