Position: Planning Manager: Ports and Terminals
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Job Function
Manage and supervise vessel, yard, resource and berth planning activities with due regard to safety, quality, productivity and optimum use of staff, equipment and space.
Key Performance Areas:
Manage, motivate and instruct all planning team members.
Structure tasks and goals, establish efficient courses of action, set priorities, organize information and efficiently execute daily tasks with considerations to high productivity and efficient utilization of equipment and labour.
Ensure that data quality used in the planning systems always is of highest integrity and maintained in a timely fashion.
Maintain and enhance relationships and goodwill with departments, external/internal customers and vendors.
Advising, apprising, assisting, conferring and counselling with these on terminal issues and initiatives.
Establish and maintain performance criteria for reporting personnel in conjunction with the Head of Operations/Manager Operations.
Coordinate the training operator program, with the equipment training coordinators. Also consulting with the direct reporting manager to ensure that the labour force is trained, tested and certified.
Perform periodical scheduled performance review with reporting personnel.
Create and report Key Performance Indicators (i.e. weekly, monthly, year to date terminal productivity)
Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that will prepare the terminal for future initiatives.
Ensure personal development plans are created, reviewed, and carried out for all subordinates.
The major impact will be the maintenance of operational efficiencies in the terminal.
The incumbent is expected to ensure that daily activities contribute to the achievement of operational results.
The incumbent is expected to contribute to the improvement of existing methodologies, processes and measurements when executing duties on an ongoing basis

Qualifications Required:
Requires a High School diploma and at least two years of additional vocational experience or a college degree in Logistics, Operations Management or related. A college degree is preferred.
Skills and Experience Required:
Requires a background of at least 10 years of experience in terminal operations environment, as planning superintendent, coordinator or other similar position.
Requires in depth knowledge of berthing ships, control and traffic of vessel movements, berthing positioning of vessels, and marine berth handlings.
Requires in depth knowledge of planning manpower & equipment
Requires experience on vessel/yard planning and yard strategy.
Requires in depth knowledge about operational processes and TOS such as Zodiac, Navis, etc.
Requires in depth knowledge of berthing planning process and related documentation.
Requires an understanding of vessel stowage planning, vessel and yard operations.
Requires some knowledge of accounting, billing, and associated documentation.
Requires advanced level of verbal and written communications skills in English.
Ability to sustain high level of activity and energy with a business-like approach to daily challenges.
In-depth with computer-aided resource planning systems.
