Mbeya Cement Company Limited (Lafarge Tanzania) is a subsidiary of the Holcim Group, headquartered in Switzerland with operations in Africa, Europe, Asia and America. Holcim is a leading global company providing innovative and sustainable building and construction solutions.

Lafarge Tanzania is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Mining Engineer, to be based in Mbeya Plant, in a permanent employment contract. The position reports to the Quarry Manager.

Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance, and ensures that the vital behaviors are always adhered to.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and collaborate with management to correct hazards.
  • Plan, analyze and control all quarry activities for all materials: limestone, sandstone, clay, pozzolana and iron ore.
  • Conduct mine and exploration surveys to confirm whether activities match the existing mine plan, including mapping and contour surveying.
  • Execute mine design tasks, including quarry updates, drilling and blasting patterns, quarry planning, and mine closure plan (MCP).
  • Perform regular topographical survey in DWG or DXF, 3D format programs and overburden stripping programming.
  •  Monitor crushing and blending of raw materials at crushers and reclaiming to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Reviewed SOPs periodically to ensure policies and procedures remain current and appropriate, or to determine if SOPs are needed.
  • Conduct physical stock counts of all raw materials and provide month-end reports to inform the Production department.
  • Compile internal reports on quarrying activities daily, weekly and monthly for plant operations, as well as external reports to the government’s Mining Office for decision making and legal compliance.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the cement manufacturing and/or mining industry.

  • Ability to work independently within company guidelines, with good time management skills.
  • Knowledgeable in health and safety practices in mining activities.
  • Good understanding of cement manufacturing process.
  • Proficiency in mining and geology software.
  • High level of integrity and self-discipline
