Position Description
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit Intern Community Liaison to join our team. The successful candidate for this position is expected to align to the Barrick DNA and drive a change within his/her team and the business and on a practical note will ensure activities in the Social & Environment department are effectively planned and undertaken in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures.
Reporting to: Community Relations Officer
Work Schedule: Rotation Status (5 Days On, 2 Days Off)
Duration: 1 Year
Responsibilities
- Own journey to zero and Aligning with the Barrick DNA
- Prepare the Stakeholder Engagement plan and review it biannually
- Ensure the delivery of effective and quality community liaison including receiving and responding to community inquiries identified by Community Facilitators/Volunteers.
- Conduct sensitization, awareness and training program which provides key messages and information to community members
- Monitors and assesses general public opinion on BGML’s day-to-day activities by conducting village-to-village visits, school visits, institution visits, etc. to gather such public views, public opinion, and through other data sources (e.g. discussions with key informants and influential people in the community.
- Develop a survey for community perception assessment to design proactive mitigation strategies.
- Conduct and/or prepare for community events and engagements with community/villages, government, non-profit, Income Generating Groups, Cooperatives, community service providers, community outreach groups, institutions, business groups, and students.
- Works with staff across the company to identify opportunities for training/awareness creation and outreach activities to provide information on BGML’s business
- Implement training, awareness, community outreach programs, and public consultation programs to increase public awareness of BGM operations.
- Monitors community perception and prepares social management plan accordingly on Local employment,
- Influx management and community safety plans)
- Participate in the community meetings
- Liaise with other social staff to communicate BGML public policies and guidelines through training and community outreach programs
- Update stakeholder engagement register on daily basis
- Communicate quarterly performance feedback to the key stakeholders and host community as shared by your supervisor
- Update Community Emergency preparedness plan contacts biannually
- Create awareness on company investments in the communities internally and externally
- Prepare Stakeholder Engagement report on weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Annual basis
Qualification Requirements
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Communication, Community Development, Business Administration, or any other related Field
- Valid driving license
Experience Requirements
- 6 Months to 1 year experience preferably in mining or related industry
- Quick learner with a passion for developing people
