Job Description
Founded in 1956, The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities – in more than 40 countries around the world. DRC has been implementing emergency response projects in Tanzania since the onset of the Burundi refugee crisis in 2015 in three refugee camps in the Kigoma Region at the border with Burundi. DRC’s integrated projects for refugees, asylum seekers and host communities comprise sectors such as Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Community Based Protection, Legal, GBV (Gender based violence), Child Protection, People with special needs, and Livelihoods.

Overall purpose of the role:

The Information Management Officer-CP will primarily be responsible for ensuring CP program data and other protection data is accurately and ethically collected, stored, analyzed & shared in strict adherence to the DRC data protection policy and guidelines. The holder of this position will be responsible for data collection, data entry, data analysis and reporting aspects of the DRC program activities to inform better program interventions.

Program Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in ensuring that targets are met under DRC’s agreement with donors, in order to be accountable to the stated goals of the programme.
  • Providing technical inputs to the programme throughout project cycle in relation to Child Protection Information Management.
  • Participate in designing of various M & E tools in close cooperation with MEAL team.
  • Design and Manage database for entering data collected by Child Protection Team.
  • Manage the Child Protection Information Management System by ensuring accurate data entry, clean up, storage and system maintenance including troubleshooting.
  • Ensure accurate data entry of new information into the database and regularly update and maintain database system records.
  • Support in conducting assessments and community visits as needed, facilitate focus groups and other qualitative data collection exercises.
  • Conducting data analysis and providing inputs, information and statistics for monthly, quarterly, annual and other reports for CP program.
  • Participate in the baseline, mid-term and end of term evaluations of program activities in accordance with DRC frameworks.
  • Conduct community visits, focus group discussions with beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries to receive feedback on project activities.
  • Maintain the complaints and feedback received and ensure a timely and appropriate follow-up or referral if needed.
  • Assist in compiling and submitting regular program reports to the CP Team Leader, CP coordinator and protection manager.
  • Assist in preparing relevant reports as needed.
  • Ensure DRC’s accountability commitments are mainstreamed into all protection activities.
  • Any other tasks required by his/her supervisors in the limit of his/her expertise.
  • Ensure implementation of child protection activities are in compliant with the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) and the DRC’s Code of Conduct (CoC).
  • Provide timely and quality inputs for project narrative reports in accordance to donors’ requirement.
  • Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with key humanitarian actors – local and international, including government authorities and private sectors.
  • Take over any other task designated by the Protection Manager, Protection Coordinator, or CP Team Leader to ensure proper functioning of the Protection Program.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Child Protection information Management, Monitoring & Evaluation and
  • Data Management in a humanitarian response working with refugees for an international NGO, UN agency or relevant ministry or local authority.
  • Experience in conducting protection monitoring and assessments, in developing and strengthening service mapping and referral pathways.
  • Previous experience with electronic or mobile data collection software like KOBO Toolbox/Open Data Kit (ODK).
  • Knowledge and experience in data management (i.e. data processing, analysis, presentation, and reporting).
  • Knowledge and experience in data processing by using statistical software like SPSS, STATA, Power BI or Microsoft Excel.
  • Technical understanding of core protection concepts, prevention, and response strategies in line with best practices.
  • Experience working in protection in an integrated manner with other humanitarian sectors of intervention.
  • Experience working with displaced, or conflict affected populations.
  • Strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures.
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, as well as demonstrated experience in advanced data analysis or capacity to learn appropriate software.

Education background

  • University Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology, Computer Science or related fields.
