The company has its main office and operations in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The role of the Senior Manager Process plant role is to develop and lead an effective site processing team capable of continuously delivering on business objectives and targets whilst further enhancing performance of process operations in a sustainable manner. The manager is required to manage, prioritizes and solve complex business problems, using the resources available.
He or /She makes decisions based on an analysis of patterns and trends in existing products, processes or systems across a variety of situations and identifies future outcomes and corrective actions to direct operations over the long term through the business planning cycles. Overall, he or she is the accountable head of department for processing operations under the supervision of the four operations managers. Critical skills include leadership of management team, safety practices, instrumentation, automated plant operations and a strong understanding of the tailings dam management and metallurgical process drivers facilitating gold production.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Extractive Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering or Mineral Processing Engineering or other equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 10 years’ service in large scale processing plant operations, managing plant operations with specific unit operations:
- Crushing, Milling (Ball and SAG circuits), Leaching and Adsorption (CIL/CIP), Elution (ZADRA and/or AARL), Electrowinning and Smelting, Tailings Storage Facilities and Water Treatment.
- Technical and project experience covering:
- Developing and managing test work programs for growth studies.
- Conducting trade-off studies on projects.
- Commissioning large-scale processing plants.
- Developing business plans.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Safety Management
- Advanced understanding and application of Safety Management Systems.
Operations Management (Advanced Application)
- Advanced application of Business Planning is required.
- Advanced application of Operational Excellence is required.
Metallurgical Processes and Practices
- Deep understanding of the processing science of various unit processes i.e. crushing, milling, leaching, tailings management including basic understanding of process simulation tools.
- Deep understanding and application of process control and SCADA systems and use of data analysis tools such as capability histograms, PARETO analysis, EXCEL etc.
- Advanced understanding and application of Metal Accounting.
- Basic understanding of Engineering Science.
Tailings Management
- Advanced understanding of operations of the tailings dam and of the regulations that must be adhered to eg. Freeboard and pool management.
Business Improvement and Planning
- Deep understanding and application of Business Planning processes
- Advanced application of Operational Excellence is required.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Safety Health and Environment:
- Drive and lead a SHE management system that aims to eliminate injuries and impact to health and environment with the processing plant and TSF.
Production:
- Achieving budgeted gold production by maintaining optimal tonnes and recovery under stable plant conditions with the metallurgy function providing technical guidance and support.
- Maintenance and Reliability:
- Achieving budgeted plant availability and utilization by implementing sound plant maintenance and reliability strategies.
Cost Management:
- Manage all processing costs within budgets through vigorous and disciplined cost management practices.
Continuous Improvement:
- Drive and lead vibrant and value delivering continuous improvement initiatives across all functions of the process plant.
Business Planning:
- Develop sound short to medium term business plans for processing operations – as part of the annual business planning process as well as the weekly/monthly planning processes and developing capital request justifications.
Training, Development and Performance Management:
- Develop and facilitate training programs that aim to meet the training needs identified for the process plant workforce and ultimately responsible for performance management of all processing employees. This will include: performance reviews, goal-setting, production goals, disciplinary action, career development and succession planning for the department.
