Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in South Africa, with operations in more than ten countries, in four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 85 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its head office in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and also a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. Position: Geologist 1 – UG Grade Control Evaluation.

Reporting to Senior Geologist 2 – UG Grade Control Evaluation.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The purpose of the role is creating and generating reliable Grade control models for accurately designing of stope/stable shapes that are economically mineable with minimal dilution. Similarly, to conduct other grade control related activities for all underground projects, not limited to monitoring UG ore tallying for maximum ore extraction, run mine to mill reconciliation and ensure optimal grade control drillhole coverage for better, ore zone definition.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor Science in Geology or Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Geology.
In exceptional circumstances a Diploma in Geology/Earth science may be acceptable, backed up by considerable operational experience (8+ years).

EXPERIENCE:
4+ years of geology experience in the mining industry preferably underground environment.
2+ years in Geological (3D/2D) interpretation and modelling/estimation
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide supervision to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety standards that exceed industry practice and any applicable legislative provisions.
Ensure all work is done in a safe and timely manner at all times, using established safe work procedures and protocols.
Achievement of agreed targets for the department in terms of
Full adherence to Geita Gold Mine safety systems.
Minimum dilution of ore.
Validating tallies of ore trucked from underground to rom pad.
Accuracy of grade estimates supplied for planning & production reconciliation.
Validation of collected Geological data.
Validate Grade control drilling data and information for accuracy and completeness.
Use of Datamine, Leapfrog and other geostatistical software available at GGM to complete regular geological and grade wireframes, block models and estimates for GC drilling.
Identify metal domains, trends, and optimal estimation parameters for accurate grade estimation.
Produce reliable grade models by applying geology, mining, mineralogy, metallurgy, mill recovery, and geostatistical knowledge.
Ensure Resource Planning Models (RPM) & Integrated Planning models (IPM) are up to date with the latest geological information.
Provide accurate geological inputs to the stope notes.
Reconciliation of the Resource Model, Grade Control model to Mine actuals.
Provision of EOM reports, weekly schedules, and other management instruments to improve effective management of UG geology section.
Creation of appropriate systems that effectively collect, store, and disseminate relevant information to the working groups.
Advance the geological knowledge of the Geita Gold Mine deposits by accurately modeling orebody/ies geometry.
Delineation of economically mineable ore zone to ensure minimum dilution and maximum gold recovery.
Regularly checking and following up on the GC drilling programs to ensure drilling, logging, and uploading of geological information into the system are done on time.
Ensure samples are dispatched timely and accurately to the laboratory and that all necessary QAQC protocols have been followed correctly.
Active involvement & tight monitoring of grade control practices & adherence to established standards.
Immediately report any sub-standard acts, unsafe & or unproductive conditions or equipment damage to superiors & to the relevant mine section representatives verbally & via incident reports
Design underground (DD & RC) programs & ensure that drill layouts are signed off by the relevant stake holders & are promptly delivered to survey & diamond drilling contractor ready for markup and drilling.
Assist the Senior Geologist in reviewing every aspect of the departments operations to ensure that opportunities to add value are identified and implemented.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrable understanding of and capability in non-linear estimation methods with gold.
Demonstrate understanding of QAQC best practices and reporting.
Involved in planning and implementing drill-out exploration and GC drilling programs.
Recognition and identification of geologic and mineralogic characteristics of gold systems.
Well-developed Geological core logging & underground development mapping skills
Diamond drilling techniques
Mining operations, particularly underground mining operations
Strong results orientation and ability to consistently deliver against the plan.
Committed to safe work practices in the mining environment.
Capable of working under minimal supervision with a systematic logical approach
Practical, organized & logical mind – ability to plan, organize, lead and control tasks.
