The Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (RAMSEM), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam today, regarding students selected to join Form One in 2026.

Dar es Salaam. 937,581 students, equivalent to 100 percent of all qualified students, have been selected to join Form One in 2026 and assigned to schools.

These students are those who sat the primary education completion examination in 2025 and obtained a total pass mark between 121 and 300.

These schools are being organized at a time when parents are required to ensure that all selected students report to school and remain in school until they graduate from Form Four.

This was stated today, December 4, 2025, by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government , Professor Riziki Shemdoe, while speaking to journalists about the student elections.

Professor Shemdoe said the selection of students to join Form One for the 2026 academic year has been carried out in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

“Every candidate who sat for the primary education completion exam in 2025 and obtained a total pass mark between 121 and 300 has been selected and assigned to a government school,” he said.

He said the selection involved 937,581 students, equivalent to 100 percent of all students who were eligible to be selected, including 508,477 girls and 429,104 boys.

He said 815 students have been selected to join high-achieving schools, including 335 girls and 480 boys.

“They have been selected to secondary schools that receive high-achieving students such as Ilboru, Msalato, Kibaha, Kilakala, Mzumbe, Tabora Boys and Tabora Girls,” he said.

“Also, 925,065 students have been selected to join day secondary schools,

of which 501,849 are girls and 424,116 are boys. These are Kutwa secondary schools that receive students from the area closest to the primary school the student attended,” he said.

Professor Shemdoe said the Government made early preparations to ensure that all students who pass the 2025 Grade 7 Leaving Certificate examination will join secondary education by January 2026.

As a result of these preparations, all selected students will begin the first semester of the 2026 academic year which will begin on January 13, 2026.

“I would like to urge all students selected to join Form One in 2026 in the country to make good use of the opportunity they have to study hard so that they can achieve the goals they have set for themselves and the expectations of their parents,” said Professor Shemdoe.

Professor Shemdoe urged Regions and Local Government Authorities to be encouraged to create an enabling environment for the implementation of the new curricula that came into effect in January 2024.

“In facilitating the curriculum, I instruct every secondary school to make good use of the orientation period for students with the aim of building their ability to communicate in the English language and choose the types of subjects they want to study in schools with a non-literate curriculum,” he said.

He also urged parents or guardians to make adequate preparations for children selected to join Form One in the 2026 academic year to avoid children being late in starting their studies on time.
