Job Brief:
* To coordinate contractors’ activities as they affect the environment in relation to pipeline construction, to assure compliance to Company commitments and good international practice. This a field based position on a 8/2 rotation basis.
Qualifications / Experience Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree with 10 years’ environmental experience in the construction industry, preferably pipeline related, is essential;
- Excellent English communication skills (oral and written);
- Good environmental field experience and knowledge of international ESIAs to IFC environmental and social performance standards as well as experience in Uganda and or Tanzania;
- Knowledge of construction environmental management controls in the pipeline industry including watercourse/wetland crossings and topsoil conservation.
- Compliance enforcement including site inspection and non-conformance reports;
- Ability to understand and explain all project environmental requirements to contractors to assist in developing Contractor Control Plans;
- Physical ability to work in the field and conduct inspection in difficult terrain and hot, rainy conditions;
- Concise report writing on a daily, (weekly and monthly summary) basis.
Required Competencies:
* The Environmental Advisor will report to the Company Site Representative with communication to the Lot Environmental Lead/supervisor and will have the following responsibilities:
- Inspects construction field activities so that good practice in Environmental Management of pre-construction and construction phases is implemented through environmental management plans;
- Monitors and inspects contractors’ day to day activities to ensure all are performed in accordance with the environmental commitments contained in the ESIA and all Project applicable permit conditions and mitigation requirements.
- Liaises with Company Site Representative and Construction team members to and effectively provide guidance, as required, regarding compliance requirements and corrective actions.
- Follows up on non-compliance Issues where there are reported breaches in Project requirements
- Report to immediate construction supervisor in the field, highlighting areas of concern,
NCRs, incidents, and day-to-day concerns;
- Liaises with Environmental Supervisor/Lead to resolve issues and seeks advice when needed;
- Assists in the review and close out of rectifications arising from daily inspections, audits, or compliance review process Provides and maintains daily inspection reports with photos.
- Participate in an internal environmental audit program (planning, execution and reporting), as well as supporting construction team to close out the corrective action
Management/ Supervisory responsibilities:
To coordinate contractors so that they deliver on Project environmental commitments and manage non compliances by taking corrective actions with the support of Management
