LOCATION: DAR ES SALAAM (TRAVEL BETWEEN REGIONS WILL BE EXPECTED)
The Company:
Africa Healthcare Network (AHN) is building the first dialysis chain across East Africa, providing high-quality, life-saving dialysis at an affordable cost to both the local patient population and patients from neighboring countries, which do not have centers of their own. AHN brings world-class technical expertise combined with developing world practical operating experience to a region in dire need of quality dialysis treatment. In North America, over 97% of patients requiring treatment for kidney disease receive care; in East Africa, less than 5% receive care. AHN’s goal is to increase access to high quality care at a lower cost to patients, delivered through a sustainable business model. AHN is currently operating in Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya.
Job Summary:
The Clinical Excellence Lead is responsible for driving quality initiatives within the Clinical Operations team and supporting other Clinical Operations functions where required. Based in the Dar Es Salaam office, the role will also ensure that quality is delivered across all operational AHN centers in Tanzania and will be focused on ensuring that teams continue to work towards meeting the goals and objectives of the clinical department and organization at large.
Scope of The Role:
- Quality management and compliance
- BME reporting and support
- Clinical Team Coordination (Nurses, Doctors and Nutritionists) and oversight
- In-country theoretical and practical capability development
- Policy roll-out assistance
- Skills based competency management
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality Management and Compliance unit:
- Auditing:
− Ensure that both major and minor audits are scheduled and completed on time − Oversee management of the audit calendar and ensure timelines and TAT are met − Review audit logistics and reports before they are sent out to the rest of the team − Liaise with the Quality Assurance team to provide timely feedback to corporate and center level staff
− Communicate audit requirements and objectives to the Quality Assurance team members and follow up to ensure these are propagated across all the centers
− Work with the Regional Operations Managers/Directors to address areas of concern − Coordinate training sessions on auditing for team members and center staff
- Inventory Management:
− General inventory usage: Overseeing inventory usage review process by Quality Assurance team Members
− Crash Cart Inventory: Overseeing Crash Cart usage review process by Quality Assurance team Members
BME reporting and support:
- Provide oversight for the BMEreporting process within the centers:
− Address issue areas that have been flagged by centers and BME team
− Manage the monthly water investigation process for all centers in the country including testing for new centers
Clinical Team Coordination and Oversight:
- Coordinate and lead clinical meetings (i.e. Mortality meetings, Monthly Clinical Review(KPI) meetings, Nutritionists meetings and those that may be necessary or designated by the Country Medical Director)
- Oversee staffing for the clinical team with collaboration with the ROD/Ms and HR • Liaise with center teams to ensure AHN’s standard operating procedures are well understood and adhered to
- Ensure clinical excellence during the launch of new centers and work with the operations/ business development team to ensure successful clinical staging within the centers
- Oversee and follow up on the proper execution of health and safety procedures within each dialysis center
- Other duties as assigned by the Country Medical Director, Country Director or the Employer.
Theoretical & Practical Capability Development
- Provide theoretical and practical guidance to newly hired clinical staff in Tanzania in accordance with the mission and goals of Africa Healthcare Network
- Liaise with Director of Training and Country Medical Director to design, develop and update capability development content and assessment items
- Formulate and ensure proper coordination/ adherence to training schedules
- Review and determine effectiveness of each training sessions and suggest any areas for improvement • Maintain and update the training checklist to ensure relevant topics are covered accordingly • Coordinate CNEs, CMEs, AHN fireside chats and Nutrition sessions with the respective trainers and leads
Policy Roll-out Assistance
- Review and contribute to the development of AHN’s clinical policies and procedures, training documentation and other related documents
- Communicate any new training policies and procedures to new and existing clinical staff Nursing Oversight in New Centers
Supervisory Responsibilities (Direct Reports):
- Quality Assurance Officers (Quality) x 2
- Nurse Trainer
- BME(Corporate)
- Medical Doctors
Desired Competencies:
- Doctor of Medicine degree (MD or MBBS) is required
- At least 3 years’ experience working in a dialysis setup
- Active practicing licence from MCT
- Certification in Quality Assurance, TOT and Dialysis training will be a bonus
- Experience in program development and implementation
- Able to work with a broad range of clinical designations
- Experience working as a trainer or with other teaching experience is desirable
- Enthusiastic approach to quality initiatives
- Attention to detail
- Working understanding of Excel
- Experience working as a clinical auditor
- Proactive communication and team management skills
- Time conscious and able to work with strict deadlines
