The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) is a major infrastructure project intended to transport crude oil from the oil fields in Uganda to the Tanzanian port of Tanga in the Indian Ocean for export.

Within EACOP, the CFR package (Carbon Footprint Reduction package) aims to reduce CO2 emissions by a minimum of 30% at project start-up and to develop a Net Zero Road Map for 2030.

As a CFR (Carbon Footprint Reduction) Project Engineer, you will have to support the CFR Package Manager in managing and supervising activities related to the CFR package.

This role involves that you will :

  • Build close coordination with technical teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure the achievement of project objectives in terms of CO2 emissions reduction.
  • Assist the CFR Package Manager in establishing CFR commitments and negotiating with electricity suppliers in Tanzania Develop conceptual studies, statements of requirements, contracting strategies, budgets, and associated schedules for the CFR package.
  • Participate in the Call for Tender (CFT) process to select contractors for battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid substations, and photovoltaic farms and others contracts.
  • Act as the company’s representative for the CFR package and, with contract engineers, procure, monitor, and verify the progress and costs of suppliers and contractors in coordination with the cost control and planning team.
  • Participate in dispute resolution with legal, insurance, and financial specialists.
  • Monitor and approve deliverables generated by the engineering contractor, suppliers, and construction contractors (around 4 trips abroad per year)
  • Manage and interact effectively with a multidisciplinary team in a good working atmosphere, integrating seconded partners.
  • Coordinate and interface with other project entities (Engineering, Construction, Construction, Commissioning, Project Control, Finance, Legal, Contract,.).
  • Report timely to the Carbon Footprint Reduction Package Manager, assisting as necessary.
  • Attend meetings with partners, authorities, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Review and recommend organizational arrangements for the CFR as the project develops.
  • This position involves visits to Eacop construction sites as well as supplier workshops or offices in Uganda and Tanzania about once a month. Additionally, you will travel abroad to supervise the work of suppliers about four times a year.

Candidate Profile

Expected qualifications:

Electrical or Energy and Environmental engineering degree

Technical skills:

  • A solid engineering background, particularly in electrical engineering, is essential. This includes knowledge of battery generation and distribution, photovoltaics, etc.
  • A strong taste for technical project management, preferably in the energy or infrastructure sector
  • Willingness to monitor and manage contract execution to ensure that terms and conditions are met, deliverables are provided on time, and costs are controlled
  • Be motivated to monitor and manage the technical aspects of a project to ensure that specifications, quality standards and deadlines are met
  • Comfortable with organization and coordination in order to effectively manage interfaces between stakeholders
  • A keen interest in the energy sector

Computing skills:

  • Very good knowledge in Microsoft Excel Suite (data processing)
  • Knowledge of PowerBi (data management – database)
  • Knowledge/use of an Artificial Intelligence tool such as Copilot
