Business Development Services Officer (m/f) – Tanzania
Enabel is the Belgian development agency. It implements Belgium’s governmental cooperation. The agency also works for other national and international donors. With its partners in Belgium and abroad, Enabel offers solutions to address pressing global challenges – Climate Change, Urbanisation, Human Mobility, Peace and Security, Economic and Social Inequality – and to promote Global Citizenship. With 2,000 staff, Enabel manages about 170 projects in twenty countries, in Belgium, Africa and the Middle East.
Background
The Tanzanian office of the Belgian Development Agency, Enabel Tanzania, is implementing the Wezesha Binti Project which is the bilateral cooperation programme funded by the Belgian Federal Government. The general objective of the project is to ensure that “Young people, especially young women, are empowered to thrive in a protective and gender-equal environment, to acquire education and skills, and to pursue decent work opportunities in Kigoma Region”. Its specific objective is to ensure that “Girls and young women (14 to 29 years), in targeted districts of Kigoma, are empowered, access multiple conducive learning pathways and enjoy decent and green employment and entrepreneurship”.
The Wezesha Binti project is designed as an integrated programme that is fully focused on girls and young women through three results areas of the same holistic intervention as defined below:
Result area 1 is focusing on secondary education for vulnerable youth with a special focus on girls.
Result area 2 is dedicated to skills development and entrepreneurship, with the ambition to increase opportunities for decent employment of young people, specifically women, through skills development, entrepreneurship promotion and business development support.
Result area 3 is focusing on supporting a protective and gender-equal environment. It will contribute to tackle the discriminatory social norms and structural barriers that girls and young women face in their family, in their community, in the educative and professional spheres, so that girls and young women benefit from the same chances to continue their education and seize increasing remunerative economic opportunities.
Job description
The Business Development Services Officer will report to the Entrepreneurship and Inclusive Growth Expert. The main responsibilities will be as follows:
- Contribute to the design of project strategies to increase and improve the provision of BDS within the entrepreneurship ecosystem of Kigoma region,
- Contribute to the development of terms of reference for short-term technical assignments
- Develop and implement a comprehensive entrepreneurship program specifically tailored for women, considering their unique challenges and needs.
- Design and deliver training workshops, mentoring sessions, and networking events to support women entrepreneurs in developing their business skills, knowledge, and networks,
- Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise to enhance project outcomes,
- Develop and deliver relevant training and capacity-building programs for service providers.
- In coordination with the MEL officer and the grants officers, support service providers with the implementation of the programs funded under the Wezesha Binti Project, and the development of quality reports for monitoring, learning and dissemination.
- Design market research studies to assess the needs and capacity of MSMEs, evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs in meeting these needs, and recommend improvements wherever necessary,
- With the guidance of the Inclusive Growth Expert, conducting regular assessments of the quality of the wider BDS services provided to supported entrepreneurs.
- Facilitate connections between women entrepreneurs and relevant industry associations, investors, and potential customers.
- Provide operational business advice and hands-on support to key beneficiaries in analysing the best fitting opportunities to grow their enterprises, increase their incomes and move towards sustained decent job creation.
- Advise business support organizations on actions to be taken to improve their service provision as well as how to implement these actions
- Promote the development of digitization in line with Enabel guidelines
Your profile
- Tanzanian National
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Economics, Business Administration, or any other related field.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop collaborative relations and partnerships, especially in a project with multiple implementation partners.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in SME development
- Experience in facilitating marketing linkages between SMEs and established companies
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse stakeholders including government institutions, private sector, and financial institutions
Specific competencies or knowledge required:
- In-depth knowledge of the entrepreneurship development process
- Result-oriented and self-driven
- Gender-sensitive and can thrive in a multicultural context
- Can work at the intersection of business and development
- A strong team player
- Excellent training, training and digital skills
- Experience with inclusive value chain development is an asset
