Description:
The Aga Khan University (AKU) invites applications for an Accountant position based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The selected candidate will manage treasury functions, including handling bank accounts, M-Pesa transactions, and statutory payments (PAYEE, WHT, VAT). Key responsibilities include preparing General Vouchers, Accounts Payable Vouchers, and monthly schedules, conducting bank reconciliations, running pay cycles on the ERP system, and managing the finance record room.
Position Responsibilities:
- Prepare General Vouchers and Accounts Payable for cash, M-Pesa, and bank transactions.
- Develop monthly schedules for Donations, Endowment, and Grant Funds.
- Manage treasury functions, including handling local and foreign currency bank accounts.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and prepare cheques.
- Run pay cycles on the ERP system and generate Accounts Payable vouchers.
- Issue receipts for payments and maintain physical records of the finance department.
- Ensure that all statutory payments (PAYEE, WHT, VAT) are made to the Tanzania Revenue Authority punctually.
- Provide Treasury-related information to supervisors and external auditors.
- Review operational bank accounts and M-Pesa accounts regularly.
- Develop weekly cash flows and track un-presented cheques.
- Reconcile General Ledger bank accounts with Bank Statements and M-Pesa accounts.
- Maintain updated finance records before annual external audits and provide requested records during audits.
- Assist with other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Professional Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Qualified Certified Public Accountant (Tanzania).
- Over 3 years of professional experience in treasury and general accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting entries, adjustments, and banking operations.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and ERP Financial Systems.
- Command of written and verbal communication in English.
- Experience in managing departmental Petty Cash Funds.
