Job Description

The Diocese of Masasi is legally recognized under the Anglican Church of Tanzania. The Diocese in partnership with different partners is conducting different project funded by diocese itself and partners , currently implementing a numbers of development programmers including: The Masasi Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project, which is implemented in Lindi district (Lindi region) and Tunduru district in Ruvuma region; the health and education initiatives at Mtandi (Masasi district) and Rondo (Lindi Rural district) and Pastoral Care Services carried out in Parishes in the diocese.

The accountant will report directly to the Head of Development Department. This highly motivated individual will be responsible for the financial reporting of all Diocese programmes and projects.

Working in Masasi and in a friendly and diversely environment, the Senior Accountant will support the team in daily finance activities.

S/he will provide assistance with the preparation of the consolidated reporting packages, Fixed Assets Management as well as, advising and assisting in the procurement Team.

S/he will be responsible for managing all the diocese financial activities and processes as well as supervising the work of finance officers (school bursars and cashiers) and will also provide technical supports in financial management to managers, program officers and other partners and stakeholders. Job Location: Masasi

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Projects Cash and Budget Management
  • Prepare, oversee, and manage approved budget with close coordination with other partners and donor.
  • Develop and Implement sound financial systems that ensure compliance with Organizational policies, procedures, and accounting standards.
  • Support in Preparation of donor funded expenditure reports as per financing or grants agreements.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly forecast to ensure adequate funding is available to execute the budget.
  • Review cash disbursement vouchers and monitor proper use of petty cash fund and approval of petty cash requests.
  • Monitor budget versus expenditure on monthly basis and issuing out the variance analysis report with finance comments.
  • Ensure timely processing and disbursement of payments to legitimate suppliers.
    Financial Reporting
    Assist in the preparation and presentation of monthly/quarterly and yearly financial reports in all diocese departments.
  • Assist in monitoring financial procedures and records in all diocese units.
  • Reconcile accounting software reports with project reports
  • Assist in conducting project external audit process when needed
  • Analyzing Financial Reports and be able to Produce meaningful analysis.
  • Ensure adherence to Donors financial controls, processes and procedures.
  • Participate in physical asset and inventory verifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or equivalent qualification from recognized Institutions or
  • Intermediate Certificate (Module D) issued by NBAA or other related qualifications recognized by NBAA and an ACA/ACCA/CPA qualification is an added Advantage.
  • Minimum four years post-qualification experience in a similar role
  • Experience in administering payrolls; strong knowledge of Tanzanian tax regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of professional accounting principles, theories, practices, terminology and ability to understand accounting practices and procedures; analyze data, narrative reports and workload flow charts, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Programs (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must have knowledge to use accounting software programs especially Quick books.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, versatility, and integrity; and
  • Excellent in written and verbal communication in English and Kiswahili.
