ADAP – Association for the Development of Protected Areas
Background
ADAP is a Swiss non-governmental organisation set up in Geneva in 1997. It supports local community-based natural resource management initiatives in Africa. ADAP assumes that any conservation initiative that does not take into account the needs of the local communities is doomed to failure. ADAP has been supporting projects in Tanzania since 2002 and has a Tanzanian branch since 2008.
ADAP promotes a community-based approach in the management and conservation of natural resources in Africa. In order to improve the livelihoods of rural populations while preserving ecosystems, ADAP supports sustainable activities such as beekeeping, wild plants collection, sustainable agriculture or ecotourism. At the same time, the improvment in the educational level and the development of local capacities are an integral part of our projects.
