Description

  • Oversee the coordination and management of Fleet Managers along with their teams.
  • Ensure adherence to the operation and maintenance schedule of trucks, while also guaranteeing customer satisfaction with the service levels provided.
  • Engage in strategic planning by continuously assessing the company’s truck fleet to develop plans aimed at enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of fleet assets in the short, medium, and long term.
  • Inform management of any actions needed to reduce fleet operating expenses.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for fleet personnel under direct supervision.
  • Supervise the overall management of the truck fleet, bringing any unsatisfactory issues to the attention of management.
  • Ensure regular review, monitoring, and reporting on the maintenance of truck assets.
  • Oversee the scheduling of truck movements.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Dangote Cement Limited,
  • Tanzania’s (DCLT) truck fleet management strategy, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with truck operations.
  • Coordinate the implementation of DCLT’s fleet operational strategy/plan according to established guidelines.
  • Manage and monitor the efforts of all Fleet Managers to create synergies and meet operational targets.
  • Oversee collaboration with the maintenance unit to ensure that trucks are consistently in optimal working condition.
  • Supervise an effective fleet management schedule to enhance fleet availability and utilization, minimize downtime, and troubleshoot any deviations from scheduled routes.
  • Ensure Fleet Managers comply with DCLT’s regulations and freight transportation laws.
  • Proactively identify potential operational challenges and opportunities within the fleet operations department.
  • Collaborate with recovery units to restore impounded, accident-damaged, or otherwise compromised trucks to operational status within agreed timelines.
  • Plan, develop, and implement a truck replacement schedule.
  • Stay informed about recent developments in the logistics and transportation sector, including laws and regulations.
  • Identify and coordinate training requirements for fleet operations employees.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety meetings with team members.
  • Carry out any additional tasks as assigned by the Head of Transport or Management.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Transport and Logistics is preferred.
  • A Master’s degree specializing in Transport and Logistics is highly desirable.
  • At least 20 years of relevant experience is preferred, including a minimum of 10 years specifically in transport.
  • Capable of effectively managing operations in a high-volume, service-oriented transport environment.
  • A robust understanding of contemporary transport systems, concepts, strategies, and best practices is essential.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills complemented by effective communication, presentation, and facilitation capabilities.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the trends, challenges, opportunities, regulations, and legislation related to the cement manufacturing sector.
  • Thorough knowledge of macro and micro environmental trends and their implications for the organization.
  • Exceptional understanding of the products and services offered by DCLT.
  • Proficient in leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and people management.
  • Strong negotiation skills and relationship management capabilities.
  • Proven ability and technical proficiency.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A dedicated team player with a consistent focus on the overarching goals for success.
