Kaizer Chiefs are likely to have a surprise new captain take charge of the side when the 2023/24 PSL season kicks off.

Regular captain Itumeleng Khune is unlikely to start given that his role at Amakhosi is expected to change this season.

Furthermore, vice-captain Keagan Dolly is still nursing an injury and he is expected to miss the first few games of the season, according to SoccerLaduma.

If Ntseki does bench Khune than he will need to select a captain for the start of the PSL season.

As previously mentioned, Dolly is set to miss the first few games of the season.

Meaning, Yusuf Maart will likely captain the side. This is because Khune is no longer first choice with Brandon Peterson likely to start in goal.

Therefore, Maart could be handed the armband. The Bafana Bafana midfielder first lead Amakhosi against Orlando Pirates last season and for a a couple of PSL games. Moreover, he was captain of his former side, Sekhukhune United.

MAART THE FUTURE CHIEFS CAPTAIN?

Maart, Zitha Kwinika and Given Msimango are all future Amakhosi captains.

Club captain Khune is entering his final season at the club. So, Ntseki and Amakhosi management must select a regular starter who can lead the Glamour Boys in the future. Dolly is already 30 year’s old and is entering the latter stage of his career.

Therefore, Maart is a safe long-term option with Kwinika (Stellenbosch FC) and Msimango also having lead their former sides (TS Galaxy).
