How do I check my SASSA reconsideration status ?

The significance of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant cannot be overstated, as millions of people rely on it on a monthly basis. Knowing if you are eligible for critical relief mechanisms is critical for poor South Africans.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) received more than 12 million applications for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) award at the start of August 2022. However, not all applications received by the agency will be paid.

SRD grant candidates may appeal Sassa’s decision to reject their SRD grant applications. They accomplish this by submitting a request for SRD grant review.

After the agency in charge of assessing reconsideration petitions has reviewed your appeal, they will notify you of their decision. You will then be able to examine the status of your Sassa reconsideration.

The procedure for filing SRD appeals has been altered. Requests for SRD reconsideration must now be made to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals.

Sassa further stated that appeals could take several months to resolve. “The appeals tribunal has three months to evaluate the appeal application and react to the applications,” they explained.

The decision of the panel is final, and failed applicants will have no further internal recourse. If the applicant is dissatisfied with the Independent Tribunal’s ruling, they may petition the High Court for judicial review within 180 days.
